Stanford University’s Dynamic Design Lab achieved an engineering marvel by teaching a DeLorean to drift autonomously.
Named MARTY (Multiple Actuator Research Test Bed for Yaw control), this classic high-tech car was designed to enhance how autonomous vehicles handle emergency maneuvers on slippery surfaces like ice, snow, and wet roads. The team reworked the DeLorean’s suspension, added an electric drivetrain, and equipped it with advanced computers and autonomous systems. Even though this breakthrough happened in 2015, MARTY’s precision and quick maneuvers remain impressive. Learn more at stanford.edu.
