Bugatti only made four Type 57 SC Atlantics, one of which has been missing since 1938. ClassicCars TV was extremely lucky to not only see one of the remaining cars at the 2025 Arizona Concours d’Elegance, but to speak with Jim Stranberg, the man who restored the first Atlantic ever made. Originally purchased by British banker Victor Rothschild, chassis number 57 374 was sent back to Bugatti in 1938 for a couple of significant upgrades.
When Stranberg and his talented team started the two-year restoration process, they decided to return the “Rothschild Atlantic” to its 1938 specifications. It was an educational experience for Stranberg, his crew, and even other Bugatti experts. All that time and effort paid off in the biggest way at the 2003 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
