Pick of the Day: 1960 Ford F-100

According to a survey conducted in 2024 by MassMutual, the average retirement age in the United States is 62 years old. Of course, “full retirement age”—the magic number at which maximum Social Security benefits are awarded—is 67. On the flipside, a vehicle (even at senior citizen age) can still be called upon for heavy labor on demand.

There’s an HVAC installation company near my home that uses a fleet of 1970s C/K-Series Chevy trucks in its day-to-day fleet. I love seeing the trucks out and about. Here’s another pickup that could be a great candidate for a handyman with a sense of classic style:

The Pick of the Day is a 1960 Ford F-100 listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Moorpark, California.

“A true American classic!” the listing begins. “This truck is a solid example of vintage Ford craftsmanship and would make an excellent weekend cruiser.”

The two-tone paint was redone within the last two years. The body is finished in a very light green, while the grille, cab roof, and rear bumper are white. Exterior features include a chrome front bumper, quad headlights, dual side mirrors, and an embossed tailgate with chain retention hardware. Peeking inside the cab, the upholstery is free of tears but, based on the photos, the flooring could use some refurbishment. The materials are 65 years old, after all! Auxiliary gauges and a push-button radio are seen mounted beneath the dash.

Ford promoted its 1960 light-duty and medium-duty pickups for being price leaders in their respective segments. One of the magazine ads from the era itemized four key benefits of Ford trucks: fuel savings, durability, reliability and price. “You save right from the start,” it proclaimed. “That’s because Ford’s economy is certified, backed by intensive tests by America’s leading independent automotive experts.”

Underneath the clamshell-style hood, power comes from an unmodified and smooth-running 223ci “Mileage Maker” inline-six mated to a three-speed manual transmission. The seller says routine maintenance has been performed. Service records are available.

Trim tag decoding reveals the following data on this truck:

  • F10: Series F-100
  • J: 223ci inline-six
  • R: San Jose assembly plant
  • WB 118: 118-inch wheelbase with eight-foot bed
  • Color W: Adriatic Green
  • Date 20K: November 20
  • Trans A: Three-speed standard
  • Axle 01: Axle ratio 3:70
  • Max Gross Vehicle Weight: 5,000 lbs

Sounds like a pretty capable rig for someone with truck needs—and even though it’s of retirement age, it’ll be eager to report for hauling duty (and it’ll look great doing it).

The asking price is $29,000 or best offer.
