New Cupra Tribe Editions go green with sustainable design

Cupra has revealed a new range of Tribe Edition model variants based on the Leonsmall hatch and the Formentor and Terramar mid-size SUVs, ahead of production commencing for overseas markets in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Donning a brand-new Manganese Matte paint colour as well as sustainable materials and finishes throughout, the Cupra Tribe Editions claim to “minimise waste and boost circular economy”.

The Spanish auto brand’s signature copper accents have also been swapped out, with the Cupra logos front and rear now finished in ‘dark chrome’, and new alloy wheel designs boasting new Sulphur Green highlights.

The interiors of the Cupra Tribe Editions feature new 3D-knitted upholstery for the seats, which is made from 100 per cent recycled materials and woven with a computer-controlled knitting technique that eliminates the need for cutting and sewing, and therefore minimises material waste.

Building on the sustainable manufacturing strategy, the interior air vents and dashboard feature 15 per cent bio-based paint finishes, and the interior trim plastics integrate 30 per cent recycled materials.

Even the alloy wheels and body panels feature sustainably-sourced elements. Each rim incorporates 20 per cent recycled materials, while the front bumper spoiler likewise contains 20 per cent recycled plastic materials.

In Europe, the Tribe Editions will be available as a trim level across all powertrain options in the Formentor, Leon, Leon Sportstourer, and Terramar lineups – including petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid drivetrain options.

The Spanish brand’s local division has already offered ‘Tribe Editions in the past, often combining personalisation options usually exclusive to top-spec grades to other variants.

Cupra Australia, like its global parent, is currently in the midst of a comprehensive product onslaught including updated existing models and the introduction of all-new products.

The all-electric Tavascan was launched earlier this year, as was the all-new Terramar. The facelifted Leon including the new-for-Australia Leon Sportstourer arrive next month, while the refreshed Formentor range is due on sale here in the early stages of 2026.

Also confirmed is the high-performance Born VZ, which is also due in early 2026, with additional versions of the Leon Hatch and Sportstourer due to arrive in the new year.

With production of the global Tribe Editions to commence during the fourth quarter of 2025, we wouldn’t expect these to land in local Cupra Garages until sometime next year – if they’re confirmed for our market.

CarExpert has contacted Cupra Australia regarding local availability of the new Tribe Editions, and is awaiting a response.
