f 150 owners sue ford over coyote v8 oil consumption issues

A group of Ford F-150 owners is suing the automaker over claims that the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine burns more oil than it should. They’ve filed a class-action lawsuit in Michigan, but the owners come from nine states.

The lawsuit claims the F-150’s owner’s manual contains incorrect information about the truck’s oil consumption and how often the oil needs to be topped off. They also say that the truck’s oil life monitor sometimes illuminates far earlier than expected. Unfortunately, the problem is still present with regular oil checks and changes, as it reportedly leaks inside the engine.

Excess oil consumption impacts fuel economy and can reduce the engine’s performance. It can also cause carbon buildup over time, which can damage the engine. The suit states that the engine oil control system allows oil to pass into the combustion chamber, where it is burned off, creating carbon deposits.

The suit also alleges that Ford was aware of the oil consumption issues but hid the defect from customers and avoided a recall. It also says that some dealers refused to fix the engine, even under warranty.

A dozen plaintiffs have joined the suit. The owners all own trucks from between the 2018 and 2019 model year equipped with the Coyote V8.
