Cupra Leon deals: Spanish warm hatch cheaper than a base VW Golf

Cupra Australia is offering run-out deals across its pre-facelift Leon and Formentor ranges until September 30, which sees the entry-level 140kW Leon V dip under $40,000 drive-away.

Until September 30, the Spanish brand is advertising several deals for model year 2024 (MY24) stock of the Leon and Formentor, ahead of updated models landing in the coming months.

Headlining the deals is the Leon V for $39,990 drive-away, and the popular 228kW Formentor VZx crossover for $61,990 drive-away.

Cupra says the Leon V drive-away deal is equivalent to around $36,000 before on-road costs, making it cheaper than a base Volkswagen Golf as well as a slew of Korean- and Japanese-badged rivals with less power and performance.

MY24 Cupra Leon deals (until September 30):

Model Drive-away pricing Saving off RRP
Cupra Leon V $39,990 $5898
Cupra Leon V Tribe Edition $41,990 $5898
Cupra Leon VZ $54,990 $3000

MY24 Cupra Formentor deals (until September 30):

Model Drive-away pricing Saving off RRP
Cupra Formentor V $47,990 $8500
Cupra Formentor VZx $61,990 $8800

While the savings off RRP are all fairly substantial, some pricing – namely the Formentor’s promotional offers – have been in effect for most of this year as special deals, but now extended further until September 30 (previously June 30).

Cupra is in the midst of a massive product offensive, not just in Australia but globally.

The Spanish subsidiary of the VW Group has already released the all-electric Tavascan coupe SUV and now the new Terramar mid-size SUV in Australia, the latter tipped to be a key volume driver for the brand Down Under.

October will see the release of the facelifted Leon range, including the local debut of the Sportstourer wagon version for Australia, first with a 200kW plug-in hybrid drivetrain with a 245kW petrol-fired hero due early in 2026. In November the Terramar range will gain a 200kW VZe plug-in hybrid version also.

From there the top-selling Formentor crossover will get its mid-life refresh early in 2026 (more details to come), and the Born electric vehicle will return during the first quarter of next year in the form of the 240kW VZ hot hatch.

Cupra’s team has indicated cheaper and less performance-focused versions of the Born are also under study, but their local reintroduction may have to wait for an incoming facelift which is still to be revealed, but likely to surface in the next 12 months.
