Toyota Tundra recalled

The Toyota Tundra has been recalled in Australia due to an issue with its reversing lights.

“The involved vehicles are equipped with two reverse lamp assemblies, each containing a multi-layer vent patch which, among other things, provides protection from water intrusion,” said the company in its recall notice.

“The multi-layer vent patch may separate over time due to thermal cycling, compromising the adhesive and allowing water to enter an assembly.

“Water in the reverse lamp assembly could corrode the internal circuit board, connectors and/or the wire harness and cause a lamp not to illuminate.

“If both reverse lamps do not illuminate when the vehicle is operating in reverse, the driver’s view to the rear can be limited when reversing during low ambient light conditions, and there may be no indication to others that the vehicle is operating in reverse. This can increase the risk of a collision.”

Toyota warns the reversing lights could become illuminated when the vehicle isn’t in reverse, the ‘R’ in the gear selection indicator could remain lit at all times, and the reversing camera could activate while the vehicle is in ‘D’.

The check engine light may also come on.

  • A total of 1532 vehicles are affected, produced between June 30, 2021 and March 7, 2025

If you own an affected Tundra, you’ll need to make an appointment with an authorised Toyota dealership to have both reverse lamp assemblies replaced, free of charge.

The fix will take approximately two hours, however, Toyota advises you may need to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time depending on the dealer’s work schedule.

If you have any further questions about the recall, you can contact the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline on 1800 987 366 on weekdays between 8:00am and 7:00pm AEST.
