Volvo is recalling almost half a million vehicles for an issue that could cause the backup camera to blink when in use. In one of the largest actions so far in 2025, the automaker recalled 413,151 vehicles in the U.S. and almost 41,000 in Canada.

The problem is caused by a software glitch that causes the camera display to go blank when the vehicle is placed into reverse. Some vehicles may also generate a fault code, which would prevent the camera from displaying for the remainder of the driving cycle. When the issue occurs, the driver may see a “Camera is temporarily not available” message on the touchscreen.

Several models are impacted by the problem:

  • 2023-2025 Volvo S60
  • 2022-2025 Volvo S90
  • 2023-2025 Volvo V60
  • 2023-2025 Volvo V60 Cross Country
  • 2022 Volvo V90
  • 2022-2025 Volvo V90 Cross Country
  • 2021-2025 Volvo XC40
  • 2022-2025 Volvo XC60
  • 2023-2025 Volvo XC90
  • 2022-2025 Volvo C40

Because the problem is with the software driving the camera and not the hardware itself, the fix is as easy as an over-the-air software update. Owners uncomfortable with the process can visit a dealer, and Volvo will begin notifying customers by late June. The automaker will also reimburse any out-of-pocket expenses incurred prior to the recall repair.
