Ford is adding another recall to its pile for 2025 with an action that impacts more than 100,000 F-150s, Expeditions, and Lincoln Navigators. The problem relates to the braking system, which could lead to reduced stopping power or failure.
The recall includes models from between 2017 and 2018 that were equipped with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. Almost 90,000 F-150s are impacted, with 123,611 vehicles included in the recall overall.
In affected vehicles, the brake master cylinder may leak, allowing fluid to enter the brake booster. A loss of fluid can cause reduced braking function to the front wheels, extended stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash. Recall documentation states that owners may hear a warning chime once the fluid level has decreased below acceptable levels, and the driver may notice a change in brake pedal feel. The automaker’s investigation found that the cause is most likely related to brake fluid contamination, which could interfere with seals in the system and cause leaks.
Ford said it had received dozens of warranty claims related to the issue, but thankfully, no injuries, accidents, or deaths have been reported. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail and instructed to take it in for service. Ford will replace the brake master cylinder and may replace the brake booster if necessary.
