Volkswagen ID. Cross concept previews T-Cross-sized EV SUV

The Volkswagen ID. Cross Concept has been unveiled at the 2025 Munich motor show, and previews the brand’s city-friendly electric SUV that’s set to debut mid-next year.

Painted a shade of green dubbed Urban Jungle, the ID. Cross features the brand’s new ‘Pure Positive’ design language, which Andreas Mindt, the brand’s design chief, says is based Volkswagen’s three “cornerstones of stability, likeability and secret sauce”.

According to the automaker, the design’s likeability comes from the front and rear graphics make the vehicle appear as though it is smiling. Mr Mindt adds the ‘secret sauce’ in this instance are “charismatic C-pillars and the completely straight window line”.

The exterior of the concept looks practically production ready, although the show car’s 21-inch alloy wheels and specially created 235/40 Bridgestone tyres may not make it to the factory gate.

It’s likely the ID. Cross Concept’s interior will be toned a bit for production, with the extensive use of fabric and plush-looking leatherette likely dialled back a notch or three. We’d also wager the translucent plastic for the centre console, and the plants living behind it, as well as the incense holder, will also be ditched.

Ahead of the driver is an 11.0-inch instrumentation display, while in the centre of the dashboard is a 13.0-inch infotainment touchscreen underscore by a row of physical climate control switches.

There are four separate window switches on the driver’s door, and physical buttons are also present on the steering wheel spokes. Capacitive buttons remain, though, for the headlight controls, mirror defroster, and mirror retractor.

The production version of the ID. Cross will debut in middle of 2026, just a few months after the ID. Polo makes its official global debut.

Both the ID. Cross and ID. Polo will be based on the MEB+ architecture. This updated version of the company’s electric-only platform is said to feature improved motors, batteries, and software.

Volkswagen says the ID. Cross Concept has a 155kW electric motor driving the front wheels. The car’s batteries live in the floor, and while the capacity has yet to announced, the automaker claims the concept has a WLTP range of 420km.

Measuring 4161mm long, 1839mm wide, 1588mm tall, and riding on a 2601mm wheelbase, making it about 60mm longer and wider than today’s pretrol-powered T-Cross.

Thanks its EV-specific architecture, the ID. Cross has a capacious 450L boot, as well as 25L ‘frunk’ under the bonnet.
