Iconic German luxury car brand Porsche has teamed up with Swiss gaming platform AirConsole on a new way to game from the seat of your car.
The two companies announced their partnership Thursday morning, making Porsche the latest car manufacturer to collaborate with AirConsole. BMW, VW and Audi already have.
“Our collaboration with Porsche is a powerful signal of how quickly AirConsole is scaling in the automotive industry,” said AirConsole CEO Anthony Cliquot. “In just two years since launching our in-car platform, we’ve partnered with some of the world’s most respected car brands, now including Porsche. This momentum confirms that gaming has a meaningful place in the future of mobility, and we’re proud to be leading that evolution.”
As a result of AirConsole and Porsche’s connection, gamers will soon be able to enjoy some multiplayer entertainment from the comfort of the car’s seats.
How it works
When the car is parked, all occupants can participate in gaming sessions via the vehicle’s central infotainment screen.
Once the car goes in motion, the display will switch to the front passenger screen, allowing all passengers to still play the game while simultaneously making sure the driver can safely focus on the road in front of them.
AirConsole will be available on the Porsche App Center. Once the app is downloaded and opened, passengers can connect their smartphones via QR code.
No other equipment is needed, and up to five people can take part in whatever game is in use.
What games will be available?
AirConsole has a large, curated library of multiplayer games in a variety of categories, including racing, trivia, party and sports.
Examples of available games include Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and UNO® Car Party!
When will this new technology be released?
AirConsole will debut in the Porsche Macan by the end of this year. An eventual mass rollout is planned in all markets in which Porsche Connect is available, excluding China.
