General Motors and Chevrolet recently made news with a pair of exciting Corvette concepts, but some earlier models of the car are headed into a recall. The 2025-2026 Corvette ZR1 and 2024-2025 Z06 are being recalled for a fuel leak issue that could cause a fire. In addition to the recall, GM issued a stop-sale for the cars.

The problem impacts cars equipped with a left-side radiator/fan combination unit. If excess fuel is spilled into the filler area in those cars, it could leak onto an ignition source, increasing the risk of fire. The filler pocket is located directly above the radiator and a cooling fan, which can draw the leaked fuel into the radiator and into the engine compartment.

GM said it had received four field reports of fires, but two of them came from a malfunctioning gas station pump, which caused a fuel spill. An employee at the automaker noticed social media posts from three owners about fires while fueling, and the fourth incident happened in a GM-owned development vehicle. Two of the fires resulted in minor alleged injuries.

The fix for affected vehicles involves installing a diverter shield under the filler area, and owners will be notified starting in early October. The issue also impacts some exported Stingray models but does not affect the Corvette E-Ray.
