Yesterday, we covered Cadillac’s new off-road electric concept, and today, it’s Lucid’s turn. The upstart automaker’s new Gravity SUV got the off-road treatment with the new Gravity X Concept, which features lifted suspension, a widened track, and unique styling.
Lucid chopped the SUV’s front and rear overhangs to give it better approach and departure angles, and all-terrain tires give it a beefier look overall. The automaker also fitted a roof box and LED lighting. While the upgrades don’t completely turn the Gravity into an off-road-ready SUV, they help give the minivan-like Lucid a more aggressive, imposing look.
The company hasn’t said whether or not it plans to build the Gravity X, but production of the regular Gravity has hit snags in recent times. That said, rugged off-road-looking vehicles sell like crazy, whether they ever hit the dirt or not, and Lucid believes its new SUV is a great platform for the format.
Design chief Derek Jenkins said, “The Lucid Gravity has redefined the limits of what an uncompromising SUV can achieve. The Lucid Gravity X concept expands on these core principles to explore new possibilities off the beaten path while showcasing the incredible capabilities of the Lucid Gravity. Lucid’s range, power, and versatility make it an ideal vehicle for those adventurers looking to explore further off-road.”
