HOV lanes are a foreign concept to me — we don’t have them in Chicago, at least as far as I can tell. Not that I’d often be eligible — probably 80 percent of my driving is sans passengers. Well, OK, maybe if EVs got an exemption in these hypothetical lanes, since I do test EVs about 20 percent of the time.
While I don’t get to use HOV lanes much at home, I do get to use them when on a press launch in California and there’s another journalist in the car. They are nice.
Enough about me. If you live in an area with HOV lanes, or travel to one frequently, do you use them when you have passengers? Or if you have an EV and the area allows EV drivers to use them when driving solo?
Or, worse, do you use them even when you aren’t supposed to? You can tell us, we won’t narc.
That’s pretty much it. Go ahead and sound off below.
