2026 Genesis GV90: Flagship electric SUV spied

The Genesis GV90, the luxury brand’s upcoming flagship crossover, has been spotted doing some hot laps around the Nurburgring.

Although the prototype is clad head to toe in camouflage, we can clearly see the overall design is based heavily on the Neolun concept (pictured at the bottom), which was revealed at the 2024 New York motor show.

Practically the only gaps in the camouflage are for small slits at both ends of the car. Out of these peek the brand’s signature twin-line lighting elements.

At the front, the bottom line of lights seem to dip as it approaches the middle of the car, creating a V-shaped faux grille display. Along the side the upper line traces the lower edge of the clamshell bonnet all the way to rear of the front fender.

While the concept had reverse-hinged rear doors and a B-pillar-free design for easy ingress and egress, the production car sticks with a traditional door layout.

The rear doors are significantly larger than those at the front, which when combined the long rear overhang hints at the car’s size.

Although the concept had seating for just four people, the production car will likely be offered with three rows of seats.

Given the rise in popularity of luxury four-seat people movers, such as the Lexus LM and Buick GL8 Century, we certainly can’t rule out the possibility of a four-seat version — it would certainly give the car more differentiation from its platform-mates, as well as external competitors, such as the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

The GV90 is thought to ride on Hyundai’s all-electric E-GMP architecture, making it a relative of the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9. Both the Ioniq 9 and EV9 measure a smidge over five metres in length, and ride on a wheelbase around 3.1m long.

The top-spec Ioniq 9 has dual-motor all-wheel drive layout making a total of 320kW and 700Nm, and is capable of ripping through the 0-100km/h standard in 5.2 seconds. Battery capacity currently maxes out at 110kWh, while charging speeds up to 350kW are supported.

Obviously there’s no word yet on pricing for the GV90, but it would be above both the Kia and Hyundai. The EV9 currently tops out at around $110,000, and the Ioniq 9 is expected go beyond that as it has a larger battery pack.

The production version of the GV90 was initially set to be launched at the end of 2025, but the latest rumours indicate the car has been delayed slightly.
